How to tell the difference between a fake Moncler jacket and an authentic one |
Please note that this page is not an official Moncler channel and is in no way affiliated with the Moncler company |
Why does the code from my authentic Moncler not register on their website? Click here for an explanation. |
Moncler counterfeiting is a huge market and the internet is crawling with fake Moncler jackets, especially ebay. It's disturbing to see people paying anywhere from $500 to $1000 for a cheap counterfeit thinking they are getting the real thing. Protect yourself from buying a fake Moncler jacket by learning what to look for and what to avoid. In the past, spotting a fake Moncler jacket was much easier because counterfeits were not very accurate. However, these days, some counterfeiters are paying close attention to all of the details when they reproduce a Moncler jacket, as well as copying the authenticity code from a jacket of the same model, and so identifying a fake is not as easy as it used to be. In many cases it takes a "trained eye" with extensive experience in examining the details of Moncler jackets to be able to tell the differencee between real and fake. Most of the information on this website pertains primarily to Moncler's signature line of nylon down jackets produced 2006 and later. Many of the labels and other details/guidelines may not necessarily apply to jackets produced before that, and/or accessories/shirts/pants/hats/etc. as well as other collections such as Longue Saison, Grenoble, and Gamme, collaborations, and special edition items. Most online marketplaces claim to have a policy against selling counterfeits but most don't enforce it, and therefore there are a lot of fakes being sold online. Just because a seller guarantees their item is authentic or claims it was bought at a Moncler store or high end department store like Saks or Neiman Marcus, it doesn't necessarily mean it's authentic. Keep in mind that many sellers will say whatever it takes to make a sale and I provide one example further down this page. When it comes to online shopping for Moncler there are a few rules of thumb: |
• | The only legitimate Moncler website is moncler.com. Any other website selling Moncler exclusively is a counterfeiter. |
• | There is no such thing as an online Moncler outlet store (website) |
• | There is no such thing as "wholesale Moncler" |
• | There is no such thing as Moncler "factory seconds" |
• | There is no such thing as an ebay seller obtaining Moncler jackets "FACTORY DIRECT". This is a common sales pitch used by Romanian and Bulgarian sellers of fakes. Don't fall for it because it's a LIE! |
• | Items sold at legitimate Moncler outlet stores are not "different" or "factory seconds" with missing tags or authenticity codes that don't register. This is just another ploy by counterfeit sellers to get you to buy from them. |
• | The claim of 100% authentic from any seller on sites like ebay, depop, poshmark, grailed, etc. means absolutely nothing. ALL sellers of fakes say this. |
• | There is no such thing as a "cheap Moncler" other than a fake |
Any website offering Moncler sales that look like this (below) is a counterfeit factory. |
How far will counterfeiters go to deceive the public? I have seen fake Moncler websites that are an exact copy of Moncler's official website, but with lower prices. Be careful! Simply put, Moncler sells their jackets for full retail price on their website and in their flagship stores. Any authorized dealer of Moncler jackets is held to those same pricing standards, so when you see any website offering disounted pricing on Moncler, you are looking at counterfeits. Click any of the links at the top of the page for information and specific details. As one prime example of a deceptive ebay seller, this is a screen shot taken directly from a listing for a fake Moncler jacket: |
This is the jacket they were selling: |
Look at the cartoon. It is common knowledge that a brightly colored cartoon is a clear sign of a fake. |
Look at the model name on the industries tag: |
A quick google search of "Moncler Rodenberg" shows that it is a men's jacket from the Grenoble collection. |
Lastly, look at the QR code tag: |
This looks normal for the most part, HOWEVER, notice the SCOM code at the top? SCOM is Moncler's code for SHIRTS and SWEATERS, which means that this tag was copied from a shirt or sweater. I alerted the seller to all of these issues with the jacket. As expected, they did not respond and the jacket ended up selling for $670. Two days later they put up another fake Moncler for sale with the same guarantee and also listed another one of this same jacket. Their 100% authenticity guarantee is nothing but a line of pure bullshit and they are a typical ebay scammer! Fortunately, ebay has closed this seller's account. So to repeat myself, never trust the word of any seller on ebay when you are looking for a Moncler jacket. Use this website to help you determine if the jacket is authentic or not. |
