Fake Moncler "Smoking Guns"

Often times, quickly spotting a fake Moncler from photos requires a bit of knowledge about the brand or in some cases, an experienced trained eye. However, there are still enough obvious fakes out there that the average person should be able to spot from just a quick glance. This page is more of a "quick start guide", pointing out obvious things to look for that would be considered "smoking guns", giving you all the proof you need that you are looking at a fake.

Before going any further, let me stress that the information here does not apply to vintage jackets produced before 2005. Details about those jackets are covered in the vintage section of the website.

Brightly colored cartoon

This is a common thing seen on fakes. Without even getting into comparison photos, if you see a cartoon where the colors are too vivid or deep, similar to the photos below, that is immediate proof that it's a fake Moncler. More recent cartoons have more color to them, but they still do not stand out like in the photos below.

Also, any jacket made after 2010 that has pointed square corners on the cartoon like in the above photos is a fake.

Size tag - location and size type

Sometimes a quick look at the brand label is all you need to determine a Moncler is fake. When you see a small tag hanging from the center of the label, you are looking at immediate proof of a fake.
There are very few exceptions to this and it's rare to see. On reversible jackets where the brand label is found in a pocket, the size tag can be there, also it has also been seen on Off White collabs. So far, no other exceptions.

The other piece of concrete proof in the above photo is the type of sizing on the tag. Moncler down jackets NEVER use S-M-L-XL for size. It's always a number, and there are no exceptions to this. This guideline does not apply to shirts, knit tops or cardigans which DO use letter sizing.

Multiple authenticity tags:

Since 2008, Moncler has used 3 types of authenticity tag and no authentic Moncler jacket will ever have more than one type.
If you see more than one of these on the same jacket or if you see a tag like in the photo below, that is instant proof of a fake.

Commonly used authenticity codes

Currently there are thousands of Moncler fakes in circulation with the authenticity code ending in IIKN. If you see this code, that is instant proof of a fake.
Also, authenticity codes ending in RBPE, YBTM, LAQK, STRO, MTIR and VUKJ are found on a lot of fakes and none of these codes will register.
When it comes to certilogo tags, many fakes between 2009 and 2012 were made carrying the code 237 871 216 838

Poorly made logo/badge

Moncler jackets are high end, expensive designer jackets. You will never see a real Moncler jacket with a poorly made logo. These are just a few examples of the sloppy workmanship that goes into some fakes.
When you are looking at a Moncler logo, ask yourself "Would a jacket that costs over $1000 have a logo like that?"

Another thing to look for in the logo is the letter M. The M in Moncler always has tapered sides. When you see one with an M that is straight up and down on the sides, that is automatic proof that it's a fake, like in this example:

This sums up what the letter M should always look like on any Moncler logo/badge.
However, just because the letter M is correct, that does not necessarily mean that the jacket is genuine because only a small percentage of fakes will have it wrong.

Red/white/blue hanging loop:

In almost all cases, the hanging loop between the collar and the brand label is only 2 colors: red & blue. It's a common thing to see fakes with a 3 color hanging loop. If you see this, it's a very good indication that the jacket is fake. There are very few exceptions.

Large logo plastic bag:

Any time you see this plastic bag with the large bell logo, the jacket that came with it is 100% fake. A genuine Moncler plastic bag simply says MONCLER on it with the bird emblem above, no bell logo. I have seen this bag countless times with Chinese fakes.

To sum it up, in many cases there is a lot more that goes into identifying a fake Moncler jacket. However, the details listed above are the first, and most obvious things you should be looking for when trying to determine if a Moncler jacket is fake or genuine. There are still many fakes out there that can be easily spotted with these "smoking guns" and the average person with no Moncler experience should easily be able to identify a fake containing any of the above mentioned flaws.
